SATCH'S FORUMS 1500 - "CUT THE CRAP - REVISITED"
THE BEST OF CLASH LIVE (POST MICK JONES)

The so-called Clash Mk.II (post Mick Jones rendition of the Clash) have been much maligned and often ignored by the diehard Clash fans who considered them nothing more than a bunch of throw away journey musicians save for Joe and Paul. At this point in time, the band had returned to 3 guitars, however, towards the end Joe pretty gave up playing guitar altogether.

A copy of this compilation disc is only - USD$10. This amount covers cost of material and POSTAGE. There is no other extra charge. (MY SNAIL AND EMAIL ADDRESSES APPEAR ON THE BOTTOM). All proceeds will be given to the Strummerville Charity to benefit new music endeavors. More info to follow on this charity established by the Mellor familiy. Here is the excellent introduction to the Clash II written by Keith who promoted that we do this in time for Joe's 51st birthday.

How can you tell the difference between an average Clash fan and one who regularly visits the Satch's Forums web site? The
former might well buy into the conventional wisdom that the post-Mick Jones lineup of the band, commonly referred to as
"Clash II" was a monumental blunder -- the sole blemish on the resume of one of rock's greatest bands.

But those who have spent time at Satch's (http://boards.gcuber.com/board/) -- trading CDRs and downloading MP3s of live
"field recordings" or following the various discussion groups -- know much better than that. The 1984-85 version of the
Clash got stuck with that putrid reputation thanks to the studio disc "Cut The Crap", a record that joins Dylan's "Self
Portrait" and some of Elvis's cheesiest Vegas work as Hall of Shame efforts by Hall of Fame performers. But the
synthesizers, drum machines and buried vocals on "Cut The Crap" were the work of manager-turned-producer Bernie Rhodes --
and a chunk of the 84-85 band lineup never even got to play on the record. In fact, the unofficial concert recordings of
that era tell a much different story, one of a powerful live band playing new songs that -- had they been recorded in the
studio the way they were played at shows -- would have earned this lineup much more respect.

That's where this compilation comes in. This an attempt, via those unofficial live recordings, to both present an
approximation of what "Cut The Crap" should have sounded like, and to show that this band took innovative approaches to some
older Clash songs. Granted, given the nature of these recordings, there are sound-quality limitations: For a few Cut The
Crap songs, no top-shelf quality live tapes circulate. And two of its songs, "Play To Win's and "Life Is Wild,'s were never
played live. But there is plenty from this era to revel in, from Kosmo Vinyl's gonzo band intro and the great unreleased
track "Pouring Rain", through the adrenaline rush of "Dictator" and the James Bond-in-a-spaghetti-western guitar workout
that opens "One More Time". We hope you enjoy it -- and spread the word.
